It generally begins in the neck although the symptoms may show up first in the dominant hand, wrist or arm of an individual. Symptoms usually start after periods of intense, prolonged activity

At onset, RSI may only be noticed during working hours. Eventually, these symptoms can become persistent and painful. Individuals who have RSI frequently massage the afflicted area/s and complain of chronic pain. Many are unable to sleep at night due to numbness, tingling or severe pain.

Welcome to www.RSIPrevent.com. There is hope for those of us who suffer from RSI. I know, and have dedicated my life to helping those who are or who will be almost totally disabled as I was.

On this website, I offer information that can, and has significantly helped folks who are in pain, including an overview of what is RSI, exercises that can help reduce and relive the symptoms, provide access to independently produced articles and data, and provide dates, locations and topics of seminars and conferences at which I will be presenting current information to health professionals, interpreters and others who are either experiencing RSI, or who are working with others who are.

From time to time, I offer lifestyle tips and additional information via email. If you would like to receive this information, please submit your email address in the form below. Rest assured that I do not sell, barter, rent nor loan out my email lists.

PARID (Pennsylvania Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) hosted three RSI Prevention and Recovery workshops  at their state convention this year.  The participants learned how to change their varied work environments into safe and healthy workspaces.   Basic biomechanics, nutrition for energy, and the ABCs of RSI were presented followed by an exciting game of RSI Jeopardy!  Attendees also learned a variety of selfcare therapies for prevention and pain relief -- exercises and therapies they could do on the road and at home.
The workshops were enthusiastically received with high marks from participants on "strategies I can use right away!" and "Information I've been needing for a long time and never learned in school."  Another participant who drove three-and-a-half hours to attend, commented: "This is the best workshop I've ever attended.  It was worth the long drive.  I feel like I'm walking on air!  Thanks, Ruth!"

RSI Prevent Associates is now  a nationally approved workshop vendor for  Sorenson VRS workshops.  Since call center agents have an even higher rate of injury than live interpreters, RSI Prevent Associates is pleased at the invitation to help prevent work-related injury for callcenter Sign Language interpreters employed by this new industry.  We applaud Sorenson's not only their obvious dedication to offer safe and healthy environments but also their understanding that awareness training is the key to prevention.
